RARE Antique DRESDEN Hand Painted Porcelain Vase & Cover German 19 th Green/Gold. Dresden – Magnificent and rare Porcelain pot with rich floral and geometric ornamentation, gold paint and lid with fruit-shaped handle, handles worked in volutes, Dresden manufacture 19th century impeccable state of conservation. Perhaps the finest porcelain in history was produced in the Dresden factories near Meissen in Germany in the early 18th century until World War II when an allied bombing destroyed the city’s porcelain industry. The porcelain produced before the war in Dresden and Meissen can be identified by the blue marks on their bases. The terms Dresden and Meissen are often used synonymously to identify porcelain produced in the Saxony region of southeast Germany, but the brands used in the bases are different. The Dresden craftsmen wore a blue crown, while the Meissen factories used a stylized mark represented by two crossed swords in blue. One feature is that the blue cobalt mark is always underneath the enamel. Prestige brand that does not require presentations. Items of rare beauty and collection. See details in photos.
