Noritake Chocolate Pot Set of 4 Cups & Saucers Japan Hand Painted Gold 1918-1931
Exquisite Decorative CHOCOLATE POT w/LID & set of 4 CUPS & SAUCERS. DESCRIPTION: The beautiful hand painted chocolate pot was produced in a beautiful pattern of pink roses with their gold outlined leaves and petals. The sheilds which contain a stylistic yellow flower also have raised gold trim. This is on a cream band on the high white pot. The design looks so classic. There are yellow bands with gold scrollwork next to the rims. The cream handles are trimmed in gold as is the loop handle of the lid. All rims are trimmed in gold. CONDITION: While this chocolate pot set is classified as used, the condition is excellent. All of the saucers have slight gold wear on the inner gold circle (probably from spoons resting on the saucer). One saucer also has a very shallow, minor flake on its back next to the rim. One cup has some minor debris in the bottom of the cup below the handle. This is not readily visible, is glazed over, and can be felt with a finger. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no other utensil marks. There is no other wear to the gold on the handles, the loop handle of the lid or on the trim on the rims. DIMENSIONS: The chocolate pot handle to spout is 7 1/4″ with a height of 8 7/8″ to the top of the lid’s handle. The maximum diameter is 4 1/2″ while at the bottom it is 3 1/8″. The cup’s diameter is 2 5/8″ with a height of 2 3/4″. The saucers have a diameter of 4 7/8″ with a height of 11/16″. Formed the trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake. Noritake Company has a rich history of producing porcelain china all the way from January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd – the forerunner to the present Noritake Company – was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan with its huge kaolin clay sources. The first reported U. Registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911. The backstamp on this piece is the green M-in-Wreath Mark with Noritake on the top. Under that is “Made in Japan” with “Handpainted” in a curve under the wreath. In Collecting Noritake A to Z Art Deco & More, David Spain shows that Noritake substituted Japan for Nippon in their backstamps starting in 1918. The saucers, as is typical, are not marked, but obviously are painted to match. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
