With a beautifully plaited/woven hair memento or memorial set into the back of this 14k – 15K gold frame, the gentleman you see here might well one day be cloned. The past meets the future? What we know to be true for this gentleman is that he is not the one whose hair is in back, unless of course he posed for his portrait with a powdered hairdo, which is slightly possible, age considered. The painting is truly magical and captures not only his likeness, such as it is, but also a bit of personality. Elegantly dressed, he seems a likely Dandy who is truly more a nerd, wouldn’t you say? We don’t know who he is, but wish to. He’s definitely got an’aire’ about him. The gold frame is locket-type with fitted oval of plaited hair in back, covex glass front and back – all in fine order. No chips, cracks, scuffs to detract from appeal or value. The painting is housed beneath a convex glass that has a gilt-noire (gold & black) border hand painted onto it in the eglomise fashion, (also helping us to date the piece), and is original and exquisite. We would not dare to open this one to see what might be on backside of his image – perhaps some identification or an artist’s signature. It will remain a mystery for now. Superb museum piece, this! Lovely Early Nippon porcelain vase – marked with the early Nippon maple leaf mark which dates it to between 1891 and 1911. Adorned with wonderful hand painted pink and yellow roses framed with shining gold gilt and beading. Measures 7 1/4″ tall x 5 1/4″ wide. The gold is in excellent condition for its age with only minor wear – mostly just on the tips of the decorations on the handles. Other than that it is in excellent condition with no chips, nicks, cracks or scratches. Please look at the pictures carefully as they are a large part of the description. VINTAGE IS NOT PERFECT. The vintage items I list are at the very least 20 years old with most dating 40 or more years and will most likely show at least some minor signs of wear or age.
