Meissen Hand Painted Courting Couple Cobalt & Raised Gold Cup & Saucer C. 1830-60 PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE PURCHASING OR MAKING AN OFFER. Beautiful porcelain empire form cup with swan handle and saucer. Decorated with a hand painted courting couple on the front of the cup. The cup and saucer have deep cobalt blue background with raised gold gilt scrollwork designs. With white enameled beading in between some of the scrolls on the saucer. Both the cup and saucer have a border of gold scrolls and white enameled beading. The handle is fully gilded and there are small gold flowers on the inside of the cup. Marked on the bottom with the blue underglaze crossed swords mark used by the imperial Meissen factory. Circa 1830s to 1860s. Has some minor wear to the gilding, and the cup has an overpainted repair to the rim above the scene. No additional chips or cracks. The cup measures approximately 3 3/4 inches wide including the handle x 3 1/8 inches tall. The saucer measures approximately 5 3/4 inches wide. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not effect the display of the piece.
