Limoges T&V TWO Green Plate Hand Painted Pink Yellow Chrysanthemums withGold
Limoges TWO Green dessert / Bread Plates Hand Painted Pink / Yellow Chrysanthemums w/Gold. DESCRIPTION: This superb quality decorative china is made of very high quality hard paste porcelain. The edges are all scalloped and embossed with trim of heavy gold. There are sprays of yellow and pink chrysanthemums which spill towards the center of the charger. The green of the background is very dark at the rim and fades to white at the center. DIMENSIONS: The diameter is 7 1/4 from edge to edge. HISTORY/MARKS: Begun in the 1850’s, Vogt Dose became Tressemann Vogt when Emillien Tressemann joined the company in 1882. This was essentially a decorating studio which began manufacturing their own china in 1891 in Limoges, France. The company continued until it was dissolved due to the retirement of Tressemann in 1907. T V is well known for its quality whiteware and boldly decorated hand paintings. Interesting enough, we find Tressemann spelled as Tressemanes or Tresseman in multiple authoritative sources. This item is in the category “Pottery & Glass\Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware\Plates”. C 1890 Limoges Hand Painted Plate Pale Green Wispy Forest Ducks Gold Encrusted
C 1890 Limoges Hand Painted Plate Pale Green Scenic Bird Mallard Ducks Wispy Forest Gold Encrusted 9 1/2 inches. Gorgeous French Limoges cabinet plate in very good condition. This plate is all entirely hand painted and features a soft green background. The center scene has soft fronds in shades of yellow and pink, wispy trees in soft gray and ducks flying overhead. Below this is an ornate, raised gilt scroll embellishment that has what looks like frond tendrils and also a bit of a greek key pattern. The top, bottom and sides have an embossed wreath or vine that is softly painted and touched with gold. 4 small, pink florals in each quadrant also have a gilt scroll detail. It is just a beautiful piece of art and the colors are outstanding! The condition is quite remarkable with no damage. It does have a few small dark specks common in antique porcelain. The plate is marked on the back with a VF Limoges in a circle in underglaze green. I believe this mark may be from Vignaud Freres, Limoges. It also has a mark from PH Leonard who were NY based importers on goods from Limoges, France. It is a stunning piece of early Limoges and sure to grace your home and collection! I have many other porcelains listed now- be sure to take a look. Limoges, Haviland, Rosenthal, Hutschenreuther, Wedgwood, Spode, Royal Worcester, Minton, Royal Crown Derby and others! Haviland Set of 2 Plates Ranson Mold Artist O. Rider Gold & Green. Rider VIOLETS and NASTURTIUMS, Ranson Blank #1 mold, Artist reversed trim colors of GREEN & GOLD. DESCRIPTION: This is a most eye-catching set. The flowers are beautifully done, but the most interesting feature is in the trimwork. The Ranson mold has a scalloped and embossed feature with 8 of the indented areas. The nasturtium plate has gold on the outside trim and the dark green on the indentions. The violet plate has the dark green on the outside trim and the gold on the indentions. This makes a dramatic display. We attribute both plates to the same artist based on the style and quality of painting. Only the nasturtium plate is signed by the artist, O. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, we can find no chips, nicks, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. On the nasturtium plate, there is a small rubbed spot on the gold on the raised area of the embossing. On photo #6, this is between 9 & 10 o’clock on the gold rim. This really is hardly visible looking straight on at the plate and certainly does not detract from its beauty. Otherwise, there appears to be no wear to the gold and no wear to the colors and no crazing. The set is beautiful. DIMENSIONS: Each plate has a diameter of 8 5/8″ and a height of 1″. HISTORY/MARKS : The American-born David Haviland settled in Limoges, France in 1842 operating a porcelain exporting business to the USA. In 1847, he established a decorating studio in Limoges. He started producing porcelain in Limoges in 1865 and decorating it on site. His sons, Charles Edward and Theodore, continued the prosperous business after David’s death in 1879. Theodore left to establish his own firm in 1892. Charles Edward continued Haviland & Co. Until his death in 1921. In 1941, Theodore’s son, William, was able to obtain the rights to the old Haviland & Co. Marks and molds and the company was reorganized as Haviland & Co. William retired in 1957 and the company was carried on by his sons. When the sons retired in 1972, management of the company was turned over to the Cerabati Group under the name of Haviland SA. The company remains in business today. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description. The stand was used as a photo prop and is not part of this listing.
