A VERY RARE to MARKET ANTOINE SOUSTRE HAND PAINTED LIMOGES PLATE. 1895 HAVILAND LIMOGES DINNER PLATE. This Porcelain Cabinet plate is Hand Painted by. One of the best Limoges’ painters. After Jean Millet’s. “L’Angelus” (Evening Prayer to Angelus). Antoine Soustre, a decorator c. 1880s, was one of Limoges’ best painters of people and was able to create a mood that is expressed not only by the individual but by the background as well. In painted pieces which include people, it is important that the individuals are attired in clothing of the period with features that are well proportioned and with facial expressions that convey a feeling or mood. It is also important that the background contributes to the portrait or figure in the painting. Antoine Soustre was one of the most highly regarded painters for achieving this balance. Many of the pieces like this plate painted and signed by A. Soustre, carry the Théodore Haviland mark. They were a very high end prestige Department Store, and importer & retailer of quality porcelain. And comparable quality makers of porcelain. This was owned by my grand mother then mother – who together owned an antique and estate store in. It has been safely packed up since the 1960’s and unfortunately forgotten until my parents recently moved and was found again. It is time for someone to cherish this again like it had been in the past. SEE VERY DETAILED PHOTOS. The COLORS are VIVID and BRIGHT! The Scene is painted by A. Soustre, one of the best Limoges’ painters, after Jean Millet’s ” L’ Angelus ” (Evening Prayer to Angelus), within gilt decorated cobalt blue borders. The subtle colors and hues in the scene are still visible. The artist signature and scene name is also very clear on its front surface! Signed and Marked on the bottom by Haviland and the retailer Wright, Tyndale & Van Roden of Philadelphia. There is one chip as seen in the photos on the edge about at 7-8 o’clock, There is also a very small remnant of museum putty on the base. I did not try to remove it. Please see detailed photographs. I can find no other imperfections. If you choose to return this plate, you MUST return it in the same condition you received it. Thank you for understanding. It has been stored indoors in a conditioned room and without pets and smoking or other odors as part of my mothers collection. Thank you for looking. This item is in the category “Pottery & Glass\Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware\Plates”. The seller is “arthuriris” and is located in this country: US.

Haviland Set of 2 Plates Ranson Mold Artist O. Rider Gold & Green. Rider VIOLETS and NASTURTIUMS, Ranson Blank #1 mold, Artist reversed trim colors of GREEN & GOLD. DESCRIPTION: This is a most eye-catching set. The flowers are beautifully done, but the most interesting feature is in the trimwork. The Ranson mold has a scalloped and embossed feature with 8 of the indented areas. The nasturtium plate has gold on the outside trim and the dark green on the indentions. The violet plate has the dark green on the outside trim and the gold on the indentions. This makes a dramatic display. We attribute both plates to the same artist based on the style and quality of painting. Only the nasturtium plate is signed by the artist, O. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, we can find no chips, nicks, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. On the nasturtium plate, there is a small rubbed spot on the gold on the raised area of the embossing. On photo #6, this is between 9 & 10 o’clock on the gold rim. This really is hardly visible looking straight on at the plate and certainly does not detract from its beauty. Otherwise, there appears to be no wear to the gold and no wear to the colors and no crazing. The set is beautiful. DIMENSIONS: Each plate has a diameter of 8 5/8″ and a height of 1″. HISTORY/MARKS : The American-born David Haviland settled in Limoges, France in 1842 operating a porcelain exporting business to the USA. In 1847, he established a decorating studio in Limoges. Theodore left to establish his own firm in 1892. Charles Edward continued Haviland & Co. Until his death in 1921. In 1941, Theodore’s son, William, was able to obtain the rights to the old Haviland & Co. Marks and molds and the company was reorganized as Haviland & Co. William retired in 1957 and the company was carried on by his sons. When the sons retired in 1972, management of the company was turned over to the Cerabati Group under the name of Haviland SA. Exquisite Decorative CFH/GDM Charles Field Haviland (Gerard, Dufraisseix & Morel), Hand Painted Set of 6 Realistic Fish PLATES, Brown, Gray & Red on White w/Gold. DESCRIPTION: This features a large, realistic fish swimming in front of reeds. One fish pattern is repeated. Three fish swim left and three fish swim right. The area between the verge and rim is decorated with a gold, floral garland. The scalloped rim is painted in a broad, bold gold. CONDITION: The condition of this decorative set is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is very infrequent and very minor rubbing to the gold on the lower part of the rims. The back of one plate on the foot has some roughness. See the last photo: this does not affect the stability of the plate on the table. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, other rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The elegant plates have a diameter of 9 1/8″ and a height of 1 1/8″. HISTORY/MARKS: Charles Field Haviland was the nephew of David Haviland. Charles Field in 1858 married Loiuse Alluaud, the granddaughter of the Alluaud porcelain family. In 1876 management of the firm was entrusted to Charles Field Haviland and the potterys name was changed prior to his retirement in 1881. The partnership of Gerard, Dufaisseix & Morel took over. The whiteware mark was changed to have the GDM under the CFH. Morel ceased to be a partner in 1890. This item was manufactured by GDM (Gerard, Dufaisseix & Morel) at their Rue De Nexon pottery in Limoges, France. This is one of the successors to the CFH pottery. It has the green CFH/GDM backstamp which came into effect with the new partnership between Emile Gerard – Director, Jean-Baptiste Dufraisseix – Decorator, and Morel in 1882. This mark continued in use until 1890. This is cited in Mary Frank Gastons Collectors Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition as mark #1 for Gerard, Dufraisseix & Morel.
